Powerless

Powerless by Lauren Roberts has blown up on TikTok. Needing to find out for myself what the hype was about, I purchased the book, and a week later, I dove head first in. At first, I liked the book until I noticed spelling and grammar errors. At first, it didn’t bother me much; I kept trying to remember that this was the author’s debut book, and she is only 21. However, the further I’ve gotten into the book, the more I am becoming frustrated. The idea and plot of the book have such high potential. However, the execution fell short. There are unnecessary errors, such as Psychic being spelled wrong on the back of the book. Not only are there spelling and grammar errors, but there are also sentences and voice issues. Such as her using the same phrase over and over. Her characters have yet to develop throughout the book. I understand the hype behind the book and hope her next one is better because she has much potential to be a great writer and author. I look at this book as a lesson and something I can apply to my graphic design work. Remember always to double-check your work before submitting it.
